The School Choir

Avoca School is justifiably proud of its school choir. In fact, we are so proud of our young choristers that we held a competition to name the group. Now, thanks to Josh Traynor, the choir is called "The Singing Souls" and the singers have their own t-shirts and logo!

The present choir was founded in 2005 by two members of the teaching staff, Miss Ciara Byrne and Miss Kathy Van Eesbeck. In the choir's inaugural year it achieved success by winning the "Arklow Music Festival" school choir competition.

Since then the choir has made a number of public appearances including Carol singing in the Bridgewater Shopping Centre in Arklow , “The Big Sing” for Arklow Youth Mental Health week and the INTO Education Conference in Gorey. The choir also sings at all school sacrament occasions.

This year the choir has been very busy for Christmas. Already they have caroled in the village at the lighting of the Christmas lights, they performed in Castlemacadam at the launch of Avril O’Toole’s Christmas Charity CD www.avrilotoole.com and they enjoyed a fun night at the Hallelujah event held in the RDS.
